It’s probably not PC wording, except in the most general sense of “politically correct (for a specific audience)”–more likely that it’s from a conservative paper that changes the colloquial-sounding “gay” to the more clinical/scary-sounding “homosexual.”
Someone allowed “Clippy” to suggest substitute, PC wording instead of the guy’s last name, Gay. This is why you hire people who are more than drones with a keyboard, and editors who actually proofread.
